an excuse to buy more lippie! BUT, do i have a better idea?

I, for one, am SO excited! To celebrate Nicki's album release MAC have designed a lippy for her - and it's definitely her perfect shade - it even matches her hair haha
And for me it's definitely the perfect shade - it's like Barbie mixed into a creamy lovely lipstick! I defy any girl not to be excited by this!
Here's what Nicki said about it;

"I wanted a colour that represented female empowerment as well as euphoria. The colour makes you feel free to rule the world. It's sexy, yet fun. It pops! It's theatrical! It turns heads! No matter what your age, Pink Friday makes you feel like you're the life of the party."

Ok Nicki and MAC, that's nice and all, but I can't help but feel I had a better idea that could have incorporated all these ideas together too...
I know MAC do fab charity work like their Viva Glam line amongst other stuff, but why haven't they thought that pink represents almost all BREAST CANCER CHARITIES! Why not advertise Nickis album being out and let her be the ambassador and donate all the proceeds from this beautiful lippy to breast cancer research and have a beautiful little breast cancer symbol on the lipstick case - this could have promoted a breast cancer charity perfectly! And let all women wearing it feel empowered, as they were helping other women!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't that have been a cool idea?!

Mind you, my little outburst of design ideas for MAC will most definitely NOT stop me trying to get my paws on this lippy! Can't wait to try it out :)

Happy pink lipstick day (almost),

Emily xoxo

Being a MUA for a photoshoot! And MUA foundation secrets...

Yesterday I did makeup for a magazine photoshoot, and oh my goodness, it was so much fun!
I arrived on time and set my stuff up and laid it out all neat, it was so nice to see all my makeup laid out so pretty - just like one of those photos on tumblr! I wish I'd have taken a picture haha!
The two models came, and my they were so pretty and had such lovely skin!
I sat the first one down and did my stuff, the photographer asked for fairly natural looking makeup with strong dark eyebrows, so that's what they got! Both models looked really striking when I'd done, I was so proud I'd done it myself! :)
I was left with such a warm glowy feeling inside, - I know that makeup was definitely something that lights a fire in my heart and keeps it warm!
The models were so kind, not nasty and snobby like you sometimes hear about! I loved chatting to them!
Hopefully I should get the photos soon, and then maybe I can show you!

SIDE NOTE :)
ADDED DEC 6TH 2010 - I HAVE THE PHOTOS =D
Check Annika and Alix out in all their glory

BUTTT something I should mention for all the makeup lovers out there...
When I went to Kandee's glaminar she recommended Loreal True Match foundation over any other foundation out there, and I was like hold up! Better than MAC, Chanel, Armani.. all the stuff beauty gurus on the net hype about constantly?! So in Boots there was 3 for 2 on, so I got three different shades, a light, medium and dark shade for my kit, and oh my lordy! It's true! They are amazing! I scooted right on back after practicing with the stuff for a coupla weeks, and bought another four shades for my kit! The stuff is AMAZING! It has such a thin texture, like MACs face and body foundation, it smooths on perfectly with anything, your fingers, a sponge, a brush, and is so thin on skin you feel like you have no makeup on, but actually it's there all day long! The yellowey undertones in it make you look more tan and healthy, and the wide variety of shades they offer means you can create any shade you like for any skin! It truly is the stuff of the Gods, better than any MAC, Lancome or Clinuque I've tried - and is half the price!
It's £10.99 in Boots, but run there now and it's in the sale for 3 for 2, so you can build that MUA kit and save some pennies!
I'm sorry wonderful MAC, but Loreal beats you hands down here!

Foundation kisses,
Emily

my freelancing adventure begins!

so next friday i'm doing makeup for a fashion catwalk - OH MY GIDDY GOODNESS! haha i feel so responsible and i just hope i do the clothes justice! the designers all have amazing wacky ideas and i hope i can somehow bring the looks together to make the makeup cohere between models, but i'm not sure it's going to work.. one designer wants completely neutral, one wants smokey eye and nude lips, another wants face body art, another 80s makeup, another with body art on exposed skin in newspaper font... i hope it all doesnt look too crazy!
buuuuuuuuuuuuut because i've involved myself in this, i got an email today asking me to do makeup for a photoshoot this weekend! WOW :D i cant believe my freelancing stuff is finally taking off and i can build my portfolio up :) i just really hope the fact im mainly self taught with little/no experience isnt going to be obvious/a problem!
but at the glaminar, kandee said if you ever get scared or feel out of your depth, breathe deep and imagine you're the most inspiring person you can think of... so i'll have to do that, imagine i'm kandee, and maybe my makeup brushed will become magic wands and make things beautiful without my nerves and worrying haha

ooh remember i showed you the big pot of special effects makeup goodies i got from dauphines? well i tried them out on my lovely boyfriend danny while watching the xfactor - the result is hilarious! hahahaha

and a little treat for you all, i've just found an amazing website made by a makeup artist, showing all the stuff you should have in your kit! it's so helpful, but has once again made me want to spend spend spend! starting out in this field of work is sooooooooooooo expensive! i can't expect to get a good reputation with products like rimmel or barry m or sleek, but how do you get to make the money in the first place to buy good makeup, in order to get good makeup jobs haha?! thank the lord for overdrafts!
here's the website, check it out!

wish me luck on my first proper makeup jobs!

Dauphines makeup and my mini haul!

Hello wonderful people!
So today the post man brought me this wonderful parcel...

Opening all the little parcels and packages, I felt like I was 5 again. There was iridescent glitter, clown paint, glitter spray, bald caps, glow in the dark paint, face paint palettes, gold and silver fine particles, anti shine powder, dust and she powder, liquid latex, spirit gum, tooth paint....
So now my special fx kit has gone from zero to hero! It was a big investment, but so worth it!
As I opened the stuff and smelt and fiddled with it, my eyes welled up. I finally was interested in something and happy and excited and I had ideas filling up in my head of the fun I was going to have. I haven't felt like that for a while (not since I saw Kandee!), and I cried a little as I realised how lucky I am to have something I love so much, and can share with others!
I'm not a material girl really, but I love the way emotions can make you feel. Like when your painting you can feel completely at peace and calm. Or watching your favourite film might remind you of who you are again, when your soul might be feeling lost.
I'm so glad I've bought myself all this stuff to add to my kit, and can't wait to unleash myself on some models!
But on another matter, it was Dauphines where I bought all this stuff from... Their website is
www.dauphines.co.uk
Dauphines
The website is full of all these precious makeup goodies! You can sit on it for hours and hours and marvel at the fun stuff they sell! So I made my order on Wednesday evening, and yesterday a nice lady rang up to go through my order and just told me what they didn't have in stock and similar stuff I could have instead. Now this might nark some people off, but she was sooo lovely and helpful, she knew all about the products, and recommended what was best for my needs! I really recommend the staff their! And then she sent it right on out, and the postman bought it to my flat today, all perfectly wrapped with nothing broken! :)
I can't wait to start doing some looks!
Also I designed myself some business cards! Check them out... (ive watermarked them so we don't get no stealers! hahaha)

What do you think?
Kisses and special fx makeup

kandees glaminar

Me & Kandee !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to tell you all about my wonderful day at Kandees Glaminar in London, it was AMAZING! She is so beautiful, such an inspirational woman, such a strong person, just incredible, I still can't believe I was lucky enough to be in the same room as her!
So me and my boyfriend Dan travelled down on the Friday (6 hours on the train!!) and stayed in a youth hostel thing like 30 seconds from Picadilly!
The hostel was just down the side where those big glowy signs are, and they stay on all night!
After we'd popped our bags down we went for a walk round Soho, and I got to see the MAC Pro store, the Illamasqua store and The Makeup Store - but they were all closed, I was so sad, it would have been amazing to just wander round and marvel in their amazingness! But I guess it's a blessing they were closed, as otherwise I would have spent some pennies! We walked round Chinatown to, up to Oxford Street and round Leicester Square! It was amazing, so pretty at night, but oh so busy! I don't think I could handle the busyness of it all the time!
And we saw street magic, a man turned a tissue into a live mouse! Seriously, I'm not kidding, it was unbelievable, me and Dan and the rest of the crowd just stood in awe for like ten minutes after! We couldn't believe our eyes! So then we went off to sleep in our bunk bed (LOL our first holiday away and we had a bunk each! hahaha).
And then the next morning I did my makeup as best as I could and popped on my best clothes, cos I was guna go meet my idol Kandee! Dan walked me there, it was at the Meridien Hotel on Picadilly, so it was so close to the hostel. When I went in a suited man opened the door for me! And then directed me to Kandees room up the stairs with this beautiful thick deep red carpet and white marble and gold gilds on the bannisters, it was like royalty! Then I got into the Glaminar opening room, and was greeted by two wonderful ladies who gave me my gift bag! We had a list of stuff Kandee would recommend for a makeup artist, a list of places we could get makeup discounts on cos we'd been to a glaminar, a bridal contract for us to use when we went out on jobs, and makeup stuff - i got some eyelure lashes, some beauty so clean cosmetic sanitiser wipes, a pink handeled brush, some urban decay shadows, and other stuff too!
And then all us girls were summoned to the main Glaminar room, and I managed to get a seat on the front row! Can you believe it?! Me, at the front, to see KANDEE! I almost fainted in my chair, hahaha.
Her lovely Mom told us all about the day and what to expect and where to eat lunch, she was so lovely, a little bottle of sunshine!
And then Kandee came out, she was so beautiful, so radiant, so perfect, and she had her little cupcake tummy too! Her brightness and lovleliness filled the room to bursting, everyone was smiling and soaking up her wonderfulness!

We spent the morning learning all about how to be confident, how to be the best you can be and follow your dreams, how to be a better person, how to be an amazing makeup artist, basically how to be Kandee! And at the end of her speaking my eyes were welled up, I had a fire in my tummy to succeed, to be a strong woman, and to spread wonderfulness into the world. She'd done something no book or film could ever do, I just can't put into words how wonderful she made me feel. And looking round the room, I knew every other girl felt that way, even the guys at the back doing lighting and her microphone felt it, it was amazing to be part of that.

These are some of the cupcakes we had at breaks, they were DELICIOUS! Vanilla cakes with buttercream icing :) Some had strawberries on top, some little oreos, some had hello kitty icing, they were just lovely!

After lunch Kandee spent the afternoon teaching us her top tips on makeup! She applied makeup to one lucky girl, Debra. Her's Debra before - she never usually wears makeup even though she's a makeup artist! And she's never worn false lashes! So we were all so excited when Kandee popped her some on for the first time ever! :)

Here's Debra after! Doesn't she lok wonderful!

After the Glaminar you could queue up for a meet and greet with Kandee! I decided to wait at the back of the queue cos I wasn't in a rush, and there I met two lovely girls, Debra (who'd had her makeup done, I got to inspect it closely!) and Charlie. They were both so nice and really inspired me! I hope we keep in touch!

While I was in the queue I got to meet Kandee's Mom properly and have a photo with her, and at the end just before I was leaving her Mom asked me to do a promo vid for Kandee's blog and channel - I nearly weeed my pants! I was so nervous though and kinda minced my words, as well as nearly burst into tears with joy, so not sure we'll be seeing that on her blog anytime soon!
When I met Kandee it was just amazing, she gave the loveliest most special and warm hugs, and she even said she loved my nail varnish! She signed my notebook and was so lovely and calming when I said I feel like I'm going to faint cos I'm so excited! Hahaha! And I gave her a present, a heart with little pearls decorating it, and inside it said 'Love', and you can hang it up! I thought it would be perfect for her little babies nursery! And when I gave it to her, she said 'Aaaw, you've given me your heart, so I'll give you mine' and touched her chest then passed her 'heart' over to mine and pressed it onto my heart. She's so sweet and amazing, and I'll cherish the little part of her heart I have forever.

Love you Kandee!

Update! :)

Hey everyone,
So sorry I haven't been blogging for a while, maybe one person out there noticed? haha
Well I'm back on the internet now, so let's give you an update and tell you about life in the past month!
Firstly, I moved out of that house (thank goodness!) and now live in a beautiful little flat with my wonderful boyfriend. Things are turning out well, but there's still BIG complications and stresses with the other house that just make me want to cry. However, with a little help from Him up there then maybe things will be sorted sooner and I won't have this constant weight on my shoulders!
Secondly, oh my giddy goodness, I went to KANDEE JOHNSONS GLAMINAR! It was incredible! And deserves a post just for itself, so it shall get one!
I have bought lots of special little wonder makeup products and can't wait to try them out! Most of them came from Edinburgh yesterday which I went on the coach to with my Mom :) We went in Harvey Nichols and in Jenners and they were the most amazing department stores! I was in girl heaven! I got some stuff from Shu Uemura to try out, and of course some MAC stuff and me and my Mom got the most wonderful beautiful makeup bags that match, let me show you...
follow this link!
I love love love the little bags!
We had cake in the Harvey Nichols cafe that overlooks St Andrews Square in Edinburgh, it was so beautiful, it was like top floor, there was the sunset, the ocean in the distance and wonderful tea and cake! And get this, at probably the poshest shop in the UK, cake was £3! :) And it was delicious! I had plum and almond tart with creme anglais :)
When we got back I did my Moms makeup, not sure she loved it, she couldn't get used to having dark lashes and strong brows - but I guess she's been doing the same makeup for the past 30 years, it would be strange to see change, but all the same, I wish she'd have loved it cos it kinda knocked my confidence a bit :(
Today I did a bit of internet makeup shopping and bought some stuff I need for doing the makeup in a few weeks on the fashion show, oh my goodness, I haven't told you about it! I'm the chief makeup artist for it, it's based all around environmental and sustainable fashion and there are designers showcasing their designs, and me doing my best to do makeup on the models! I can't wait! =D So I got like some body paints and latex stuff and bald caps and all sorts of special fx makeup goodies, as well as a 'little' order from MAC (again!), some lashes from kandilashes, and disaster struck and it all went downhill from there when I saw some Christain Louboutin Madame Butterfly Booties for £150! Now, they're meant to be like £900, they've sold out round the world and are basically impossible to get, so when I saw this site I was amazed, but my excitement got the better of me, and after popping in my details, and mentally extending my overdraft, the payment went through, but my confidence in the site failed,
the site is... www.christianlouboutin-port.com
check it out for yourselves, at first it sempt legit, but the payment site they have had fraud written all over it, the only problem was, you don't see this site till after you've paid! Aaargh so after a severe kicking of myself I am heading to the bank right away at 9am to cancel the transaction, and I've already sent them an extremely nasty email telling them what I think! But I'm sure they'll laugh as they wrap and parcel off some fake loubys to some other unsuspecting excited girl! They are my dream shoes, I should have known better! Sometimes your head should rule your heart, and it really should have in this case! So anyway I'll keep you updated on that, and I strongly hope that everyone reading this listens and doesn't buy when they don't completely trust what they see!
PS this is the payment system they use...

Right, rant over!

I really want to do makeup tutorial videos on youtube and be an amazing makeup artist and go out and make people feel beautiful but I'm so scared. The industry is so competitive, and just from a minor insight into it it's frightened me! For example, Kandee Johnson is so beautiful and inspirational, but she gets hate mail telling her to kill herself and that she's ugly. She has so much sunshine in her heart that nothing seems to cloud her spirit, but if someone said that to me I feel like it would hurt me so much, even if it was just through the computer. I'm so sensitive and have very thin skin, so not sure how well I'll fare in the industry! However my passion for the art in it keeps my spirit alive, so I'm going to try my best! And if it gets too much, I guess I'm allowed to back out and say no.. but fingers crossed eh!

I'm off to watch Gossip Girl then the Apprentice then the Only Way is Essex - the girl in it, Amy, is so beautiful! She always looks so polished and just like any mans dream!

Upon hunting down a picture for her for this, I discovered her beauty doesn't 100% portray in her photos - so it goes to show everyone has their faults!
Sorry this post has been kinda depressin but I feel a bit down today, hopefully I nice sleep, shower, and TV session will sort me out :)

Take care all
xoxo
