nail varnish and pheasant dissection

Hello lovelies,
I've been lusting after this nail polish for agesssssssss! It's Rimmel 60 Seconds polish in Rose Libertine, #405. The colour is such a cute vintage pink, and every time I've been in Boots or Superdrug I've always nosied at it, but the other day I finally decided to get it!
I was so excited, so right after I'd hopped out the shower I popped it on my nails - and it looked so lovely! The brush is super thick and much easier to use than a normal nail varnish brush - much less chance of mistakes! I managed to do my right hand with my left (which usually ends in disaster) with no pink dribble down the sides of my fingers haha, instead they looked great! I did two layers of polish, then a clear layer over the top.
The colour was so bright and glossy and lovely - and the polish did dry in 60 seconds, if not faster! However, within 24 hours, all my nails were chipped :( and quite badly chipped at that - I'm gutted! After all this lusting after the polish, I finally get it and it's no good!
Never mind, eh. But I really don't recommend it - unless you're having one beautiful night out - cos it looked fab while it lasted :D

Meanwhile, in the world of my marine biology degree, I dissected a pheasant! Now usually I abseloutely hate dissections, but I'm gradually coping to deal with them cos it's important I do if I want to pass my degree. So there's me thinking we're just noseying at a birds wing, but no, it's the entire bird just laid out on a wooden slab! My heart was beating very fast when I saw that! However the leader of the lab told us that the bird's hadn't died for us, they were dead anyway - as hunters up in Scotland just do it for sport, and the uni had just bought these birds off those hunters, which I was glad to hear, if I'd have known that bird had died for me I'd have felt awful :( My lab partner, Kathryn, loves dissection and Zoology, and she's so helpful! I'm so lucky to be sat next to her cos she really puts me at ease, and she's soooooooooooooooo clever! She really inspires me to work hard!
I have a lab report to get done tonight, a test tomorrow and then another report thing to do too, but then it'll all be over (kind of haha, I still have exams to revise for)!

Anyway off to get this stuff done,
Have a lovely evening everyone,

Emily xoxo

New Years Resolutions

Hey lovelies,
Today I've been in a really reflective mood, and therefore have decided to write my hopes and wishes for next year.

1. To further my career as a makeup artist. I want to network like crazy, and increase my reputation. I'd like to really push it to the maximum, with beautiful business cards, my own call lists (wish is pretty well developed already - eek!), a great kit, and to work with some of the best in the trade.

2. To channel my creativity in all areas of my life. I'd love to create wonderful cooking creations, dress just how I like, have fun different makeup every day, try a rainbow of hair shades, to write and draw and paint, to create beautiful homemade presents for people I know, to pursue photography more, to decorate my home beautifully...

i love everything about this picture

3. To complete my BTEC in Makeup Art to the best of my ability. This will be so much fun!

4. To, fingers crossed, save up for a get a Macbook and a Nikon D90.
* I LOVE this case! *

5. To make Dan know how special he is to me. He's such a wonderful person - he deserves to be told every day.

6. To loose a little weight. I'm over what my healthy body weight would be for my height, so just want to get to the stage where I'm a healthy size. It'd make me feel so confident and beautiful and hopefully decrease my number of sad fat days haha! However, I love food so much that the only way I'll do it is through exercise, so off to the gym I'll go. Although Kandee Johnson did recommend Hemp shakes to have in the morning, and they sound super tasty, so I guess swapping a meal for a shake a day would be fine :)

7. I'd love a creative space - somewhere where I can cover the walls in inspirational stuff, have paint everywhere, lip sticks all over the place, fairy lights, books.... :)

What are you guys New Years wishes and dreams?

Fireworks,

Emily xoxo

PS So today I had so much work to do, a lab report, a statistics report and to revise for a test at the end of the week, but instead I've just decided to draw. It's been so much fun and so cleansing for my heart! Here's what I did...

another day, another incredible shoot

Hello everyone :)

Today I've been on shoot with an incredible makeup artist, Sandra Cormack - look up her company, it's SC Makeup Artistry http://www.scmakeupartistry.co.uk/
It was the first time I met her today, and immediately she made me feel warm, welcome and comfortable. I half assisted her and half did makeup too. When I was all done with my models it was wonderful to just sit down and chat with her about girly makeup things over a hot chocolate!
The shoot was at 'The Secret Bunker' http://www.secretbunker.co.uk/ The most amazing location ever for a pin up themed shoot! It is a museum based far underground all about the war - it had so many old artefacts and fun things for us to see! I'd wrapped myself up all warm as there's still snow on the ground, but deep underground it was roasting hot! The have no heating at all, my my lord, it felt like we were in Hawaii!
The shoot was for FS , the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show. This show is amazing - it's so well known! It's the biggest student run show in the UK! To give you an idea of the scale of it, Maxfactor do the makeup for the show (but hopefully me and Sandra can sneak in and get involved!) and Alfa Romeo are sponsoring the next shoot - incredible! It's been featured in Vogue and The Sunday Times - it's mind blowing to think I worked on a shoot for an organisation so huge!
Check the website out - it's honestly something special!

So the brief we had was a modern high fashion pin up style - and boy, is that my favourite thing to hear! I love this style!

First up I did makeup on Lex, a guy from Lancashire - he had such fab skin! Very lucky! We popped him on his first ever makeup, with some foundation contouring on the cheekbones and round the eye, and then the other girls lubed him up in body oil ready for his shoot!

Next I did Lara, she was so lovely! And her the most big and beautiful doe eyes. And her hair was so soft and smooth! So amazing that she can roll out of bed and have the most wonderous hair! We did her a smokey eye with some browns and golds as they really complemented her complexion, and then big red lips too :)

Next I did Helene's makeup - she had such a fab colouring, so we figured green would look great on her, so we did her a really big and fun green smokey eye with again - the red lips! :) Then Sandra got to work on that INCREDIBLE BOUFFANT! That beehive was gravity defying!

This dog was sooooooooo cute! He was trotting about with his hoody on! :)

Next I prepped and did the base on Nina's skin, ready for Sandra to whip out her amazing skills for an amazing pin up look, by far my favourite of the day. Nina was so fun to work with, and let me use her Nikon camera, she has it as she loves photography, and my goodness, that camera was incredible! I'd love one! Here's some snaps of her having her makeup done and on shoot. The styling for the shoot was lingerie, some pretty expensive stuff too - £43 for a bra! But it was all beautiful, and amazing quality.

Look at Nina working it! She looks so much like Scarlett on here!

Sandra and Nina post makeup and hair. Sandra was INCREDIBLE at hair too! Is there no end to this womans talents?!

And finally some shots of Sandra and me post makeup. I was worn out - a 7am start on a Sunday morning wasn't too great! But the adrenaline and buzz I get during the shoot just keeps me going. It's such a wonderful feeling - I love how certain people just have something that makes their heart sing. For example today, as soon as Nina began talking about photography she just lit up, you could tell it was her passion. It's so fun learning what different peoples secret love is!

After makeup Sandra and I travelled further underground to where they were shooting to have a look at our work in action. And my lord, the photographer was out of this world. I got a glimpse of the shots - and I've honestly never seen such incredible stuff. I couldn't believe that I'd had the chance to work with him. His name's Kayhan, here's his website,
Check out his wedding stuff - the fact he charges a minimum of £1000 really indicates what an incredible talent he is, but honestly, his website really doesn't do his justice.

Fingers crossed I'll get to work with these geniouses again - as well as being brimming with talent they are the most wonderful kind people.

All the best,
Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend too,

Emily
xoxo

PS Dan, bless his soul, had a cup of tea waiting for me when I got back! He's the sweetest thing!

Here's a nice old fashioned phone in keeping with the pin up theme!

that put me in my place

So remember those Dr Martens I ordered what seemed like forever ago? Well according to UPS, they tried to deliver them yesterday and left me a note, and I'm 100% sure they didn't, as me and Dan were in all day, and they didn't leave a note either. Plus we would have heard the door, cos you know when you know that a parcel's coming, your ear is always kinda waiting for that noise? Like you're always alerted for it?? Well I've been like that for a week now! haha So anyway, when I got an email from Schuh and UPS being like 'we tried to deliver your shoes but you weren't in', it kinda got me mad! I've been waiting so long for them, and then for them to blatantly lie got me cross! So I was all fired up ready to ring them up and argue with them, but then Dan (he's at work) messaged me to let me know the road we usually use has been closed, because there's been an accident, and someone's died. The accident was about 5 minutes from my house, if that, and one guy has died, another is critically injured. All of a sudden life was put back in perspective for me, who cares about the shoes, I have some already to wear, and I have life! I felt like such a spoilt brat.
I've experienced what a road traffic accident can do to a family, my lovely cousin Nick died last year, he was only 18 - and it's ripped my family apart. We all try and do his memory justice by being happy that we could know him, but at the same time it's just so devastating. My heart goes out to the family that have lost their son today.
And if anyone's feeling generous this Christmas, my Aunty set up this memorial fund for my cousin, donate kindly if you can, as what this charity does is incredible.

Have a lovely day - and remember what's most important in life,

Emily
