presents for me! and girly hair!

Hello :)

So today me and Dan put our Christmas decorations up! As we're on a very tight budget, our decorations do look slightly ridiculous but still lovely haha - for example our £10 tree with no baubles and one tinsel strand, or our red glittery christmas twigs in a vase five times too big haha - but lovely all the same :) We put all the decorations up while listening to a Christmas playlist on youtube, it was so cute! :) :) :)

A while back I had one of this daft bling phone covers for my Blackberry, but it broke off and after failed attempts to glue it to my phone, my dear Betty Blackberry has been naked for too long! It's wintertime, she is cold, and therefore I feel needs a new case! So after hunting down eBay and not being satisfied, I found this wonderful website... they do personalised phone covers for a not bad price! I've emailed them for a quote, so fingers crossed Betty will be beautifully clothed sometime soon!

♥ Glam Chic ♥

I've been wanting to dye my hair either pink or lilac for ages, and finally got the courage to do it today (well, to order the dye). I dyed my hair a reddy colour, like this...

It was the most far out I've ever gone with hair dye before (apart from an unmentionable time when I was in Y7 and dyed my hair reddy/pink and fainted with shock haha - I really did not work it ha), and I loved being able to adapt my clothes and makeup to my hair! So pink will be so much fun to work with! After much deliberation, I ordered a bleaching kit thing to strip the colour out of my hair first, and then chose 'Carnation Pink' as the colour to dye, it helped after seeing inspiration from this picture... doesn't she look amazing! I hope I work it like that haha.

I'm so excited! :) :)
But nervous to bleach my hair! Will the bleach completely strip the colour out? So my entire head of hair will be basically colourless until my brown grows back through? That'll take foreverrrr, so guess I'll have to continue dyeing it for a while - but I'm young I guess! I really wana try lilac dip dye on the ends :) That'll be my next hair mission.
Wish me luck!

Also, a few things to add to the Chrimbo list..
Firstly the Bobbi Brown Universal Palette

And next, these gold Bordello Teeze Shoes - or should I get them in pink to match my new hair?
Here's the site if you fancy them...

And OH MY GIDDY GOODNESS,
I can't believe I didn't mention this first! I have my first EVER paid makeup job on Sunday! It's with a really famous makeup artist in my area, she's even worked on London Fashion Show!
Here's her site...
We're doing 1950s style makeup in an old war bunker! :) Can't wait! Even though I have to be there at 8am aargh, I'm really not a morning person, but I'm going to have to be on Sunday! I'll keep you guys posted how it goes! :)

Have a wonderful weekend everyone

false eyelashes!

Since Sunday night (it's now Thursday) I've had false lashes on, now from any falsies I'd kinda hope they'd last this long anyway, and be reusable too.. but these ones are fab as I got them all for a pound! That's it a quid! £1, one golden pound haha! They're from Home Bargains - it's a discount shop in England but I think you can get them from the website 'Fragrance Direct'. I've had the second from bottom ones on and they look super cute and elongate the eyes in a Marilyn Monroe esque style - lovely!
The only thing I will say is that they don't come with glue (which I wouldn't have used any way). I've tried loads of glues, but now I'm firmly addicted to DUO lash adhesive. You can get this from MAC for £8, but I've seen other odd places and sites do it cheaper. It's amazing, doesn't dry hard so you don't get that awful painful removal, it's not stringy or too sticky - it just does the job perfectly! Now admittedly I've had to glue the end bits of the lashes back down a couple of times, but I'd expect that from any lashes anyway!

I strongly strongly recommend DUO - it's made these cheapy lashes look super expensive and last super long, and I wouldn't trust any other eyelash glue - you need something you really trust around your delicate peepers! And around clients eyes too.

False lash love,

Emily xoxo

another shoot and saying bye to 2010 :(

Hello everyone,
Hope you're all still enjoying all the snow and noones too bruised from tripping up! Luckily I haven't fell over yet *touch wood*, and have got a lovely pairs of winter boots winging their way to me to prevent falling at all in this chilly weather! They're taking forever to come - guess Mr Postman is all snowed in too ..

these are the boots i've ordered! :)

This week I've done makeup for two shoots, the one I wrote about in my last blog, and another one yesterday. This was again for a magazine called 'The Tribe' and was such fun! The model was so lovely - she was on Irelands Next Top Model! Her name was Sadhbh - what a cool Irish name! I did her a pretty plain natural face, and then black lips, and it suited her so well! She then wore a dress made from newspaper! And then, bless her soul, went out in the freezing cold snow in this dress and posed, and changed to another outfit - in broad daylight! She was amazing, and no task the photography team asked her to do was too big - she even stood on the pier with the cold sea wind blowing her, in only a newspaper dress and heels, with the snow all around her! A true trooper!
I love the buzz I get after doing makeup for people - I just feel all glowy inside, I'm so glad I have something that I have a real passion for, cos uni is getting such a drag at the minute!
This week, as it's nearing the end of 2010, I've started to think about the past year I've had. I met Dan, got diagnosed with a mental illness, met Hayley who's now a best friend, hit rock bottom, started studying make up artistry, moved in with Dan (and out of a house with my old best friends), and did makeup on photoshoots, went to court with Dan, met Kandee Johnson and went to her Glaminars. Most of the things that have happened this year have been amazing, and I'm so glad and lucky they've happened, but there has been such downers too - the mental illness especially.
But overall, I've had an amazing year - I've met Dan, he's incredible :) I've found a true passion in makeup artistry - it's constantly on my mind! And I live alone with Danny, and it's so much fun - he's the best, and my New Year's wish will be that I can be with him forever :)

We'll see what 2011 brings!

Hope your 2010s have brought you nothing but happiness!

christmas party photoshoot!

Hello everyone :)
Today I did makeup for a photoshoot based all around fun party makeup for the festive season, it was so glittery and exciting, it made me want to get my glad rags on and drink eggnogg and share presents!
The girl I did makeup on, Rosie, was sooooooooooooooooooo lovely and had the most AMAZING skin I've seen on any model so far - I asked her her magic trick - and she uses Cliniques 3 Step System, and has done since forever, she said she used to have sensitive skin but the magicness of Clinique has sorted it out!
I know the 3 step system is expensive, but I would have tried a whole finger for skin like that hahaha! I MUST try it soon!
So on her lovely soft beautifully smooth skin, I popped her some foundation on and powder - she needed hardly any! and some pinky blush and contoured a little and got to work on her big lovely peepers!
I used only the Urban Decay Book of Shadows Volume 3, partly because Rosie said she was really thinking about buying it so I wanted to show it off to her, partly because I am writing the product list for the magazine the photoshoot pictures will be featured in so I wanted just one product for readers to get their paws on, but mainly because it's AMAZING! My beautiful Moma got this for me in Summer, and my how I have loved and cherished it since :)
So from the palette, the colours I used were...
'Midnight Cowboy Rides Again'
'Last Call'
'Rock Star'
'Perversion'
'Uzi'
'Snatch'
'Bordello'
and 'Psychedelic Sister'
My - that's a lot more than I thought I'd used! haha but as I'm working I just sort of pop shadow where I think it'll look best and match colours up and blend and shade.. :)
I've done a tick on the colours I used :)

She looked so lovely at the end and I was so proud :) She had tutorial after the shoot - I sure hope she kept the makeup on haha - even these glitter lashes I popped on for her!
Note this isn't Rosies eye - she had big beautiful brown peepers! :)

I had so much fun doing the shoot, and it was great to work with Ben Goulter - a photographer from this area, and see him work his magic. His kit was incredible and he was truly a master at what he did. I can't WAIT to see the photos, and hopefully there'll be published in 'The Tribe' magazine too :D
I'll keep you posted on them!

Glitter Christmas makeup,

overcoming obstacles

Hello everyone,
So today I don't want to write my typical makeup blog - I want to focus on something a lot more meaningful - that of overcoming big obstacles in your life.
Now I might be only 19, but I feel I'm more than enough experienced to speak about such things.
Everyone has their own story - everyone has memories of the time they've been most down and sad, and memories of the time they've been on top of the world. We might think of these a lot, but most people don't think a lot about times when they've been strong. When they've pulled through things they never thought they could, and proved to themselves that they can 'do it'. Now people don't usually speak about any of these times, the good, bad or the strong parts - but WHY?! These are the bits that highlight a personality most, the bits of a persons life we should admire about them, but people are just too embarrassed to admit these kinds of things.
I've had all of those times, and my spirit and soul is so strong because of them. I've cried and cried till I could cry no more, I've wished I wasn't here so many times - even tried to not be here, I've pushed everyone around me away and tried to just hibernate in my own sadness alone, I've had my heart torn and felt like I was no good to anyone, suffered with depression and Bipolar disorder... and I've had times of feeling amazing and brilliant, I travelled to another country alone for a month, I moved to Scotland alone to follow my dreams of studying marine biology, I set up my own business and blog about makeup...
And I know there are people all around me, people I know and people I don't, that are suffering lives battles, but should scream and shout about how amazing they are, and what journey they've been on!
For example, *I hope the people I speak about don't mind me talking about them!*
I've recently been in contact with a photographer called Lynn who after reading this blog told me she's also suffered for a long time with Bipolar Disorder, and that she's been down and in some bad places - but now she's stable and at university studying what she's always wanted to, and is finally doing what she wanted to in life :)
My boyfriend Dan had awful troubles with his past partner and she knocked him down and hurt him and his confidence so much until he took an overdose, but now me and Dan are living together and we are both so happy :)
In life I guess we all have to realise that there will be people that are just mean, horrible and want to pull you down.. but we can't let them!
We have our own stories, we're all amazing, no matter how low we get, we can get through it, no matter how long it takes, we'll get to be what we want to be, we just have to be patient.

WE CAN GET THROUGH ANYTHING

Strong thoughts :)

all snowed in!

So today the snows come down and I'm all snowed in, so have treated myself (well, my credit card treated me) to some winter boots...

They're Dr Marten Triumph 1914 boots, can't wait to wear them :)

I've decided to give myself a bit of a style/hair/makeup overall, to be a bit more rock chick :) Here's my inspiration, she's called Lezlee and I was pretty good friends with her when I was younger, and I'm hoping to get my hands on her to do makeup for my portfolio! Isn't she beautiful!

I live about six hours from home now, so my little bunnies are a long way away! But my lovely brother has took these wonderful pictures of them for me in the snow..

This is Jack - he's almost 9!

And this is Wallace, who's 3 :)

I love them to bits :D Can't wait for big Christmas cuddles with them!

Hope everyone's enjoying being snowed in! I'm going to have a gingerbread coffee - you can get the syrup for £3.50 from Starbucks and it's delicious!

Gingerbread kisses,

Emily
