Illamasqua Style Shoot

Hello my dear readers,
First of all I must apologise for not blogging for so long! What with the move to Sheffield and then my laptop breaking, I just haven't had chance to blog! However, I have had time to do lots of photoshoots, which I shall tell you all about :D
Last Thursday, I worked for the first time with model Pinderella (Donna) and Hayley Jayne Photography. I was super super excited to work with them both! Hayley had mentioned her stylist had a vintage black and white jacket that she'd love to shoot with, so straight away I got thinking of makeup with a black and white theme. I decided to go for Illamasqua stlye makeup - not your regular every day stuff! I'd been wanting to try this look for ages, and practised it on myself first to check everything worked (which it did, apart from it's hard to blend products onto a white face, and it was hard to get the white to be completely opaque).. I did this at about 1am and woke poor old Danny up to show him - he had a fright!
So last Thursday I went and got Donna from the train station, she's so pretty in person, and such a wonderful character! I instantly felt at ease and we had a good chat and giggle together :D The shoot was at Hayleys house, she had the most perfect white brick wall as a backdrop! Hayley was also so lovely in person, and really made us feel at home in her lovely house!
I got to work on the makeup, and boy it took a long time, but was super worth it!
Here's some sneak peek pictures I took of the shppt. What do you guys reckon to it? Isn't Pinderella just beautiful! And I love the black and white shot, amazing! And that jacket, wow!

LOVE these pictures!

Up! / Quirky Wedding Shoot

Hello my lovelies,

So last Thursday I had a photoshoot with a photographer I've been wanting to work with FOREVER! Gillian Gamble is a photographer based in St Andrews, I love her style so much - it always looks so vintage looking. And she does illustrations too, which are beautiful. She has amazing talent, and I'm 100% sure she's going to go very very far. Check her work out here;
I also got to work with model Rosie Gowans, who I've met before at the Bridal Fayre I did in Dundee in January. Me and Rosie laughed that everytime I see her she is in a wedding dress! :) On the shoot we had an outfit change, plus some amazing props. Gillian bought the dollshouse in an auction for £1, amazing! I think the balloons set off the blue sky amazingly, just love the whole shoot :)
The below pics are when Rosie was wearing a lovely silky green dress with matching green shoes. I did her lovely red lips for this to really bring out the green in her dress. Her eye makeup consisted of browns, golds and taupes from the wedding dresss shoot.
We shot this on East Sands beach in St Andrews, and it was SO WINDY! The balloons were going all over the place, Rosies hair kept going in her eyes and mouth and covering her face, - I think both Rosie and Gillian have done an amazing job despite the crazy wind!

So half way through the shoot we had an outfit change in my car, which was interesting, as when me and Rosie walked up to Nelly my beloved car, there was a van full of greasy men eating their butties there, ready to ogle Rosie getting changed! Needless to see I quickly sped Nelly round the corner away from their prying eyes!
The wedding dress was again another 'prop' from Gillians - she bought it in a charity shop, and though it doesn't look like much when it's not on, I think it looks so beautiful and amazing in this shoot! Just shows, you should always try things on ;) For the wedding shots we experimented with Rosie having her green wooley hat on and with a pink flower corsage in her hair, but I really love all the shots we got. I can't pick a favourite!
I love this one below, our dear bride is floating away!

I like the one below as it really shows the eye makeup off :)

I'm so glad I finally got to work with these lovely ladies before I moved back to Sheffield. I also got to nose round Gillians house, which was AMAZING! Exactly how I want to have my house, think shabby chic / Cath Kidston / fairy lights - I love it so much! Definitely a source of inspiration for my next house decoration mission ;) :)

After the beach shoot Gillian made us tea and toast, yey! And we did a quick few test shots for a Snow White style shoot involved with the Byre theatre, can't wait to see those pics! :)

Get inspired everyone, :)

Spaceage/Shower Shoot

Hello sweeties,

So this is a post that's been a long time coming, as this shoot was like 3 weeks ago! However I need to tell you guys about it as I loved the shoot so much! :)
I've done you a recipe/step by step guide of what I used and how I did it, so enjoy reading :)

Products Used –

MAC Complete Comfort Creme

Urban Decay Eye Primer Potion

MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation - Shade NW15

MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural

Dermablend Concealer Palette

elf Cool Bronzer Palette

Benefit Blusher in Coralista

yaby Best of Both Worlds Eye Palette

Barry M Dazzle Dust, used alone as well as with MAC Fix +to create liner

MAC Lipstick in Snob and Lovelorn

MAC Lipgelee in Sin-tillation

Collection 2000 Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in Le Freak

Mehron Ultrafine Metallic Powder in Silver

Beauty Nation Glam Lashes applied with DUO Eyelash Adhesive

Method

I prepared the skin with MAC moisture cream, which I love – it’s so rich and works well with any skin type, and prepared the eyes with Urban Decay Primer Potion – a staple in myself and most makeup artists kits, it ensures shadow stays super bright and beautiful for an unbelievably long time! I then applied MAC foundation with a sponge and buffed over some MAC Mineralise powder to remove shine but leave skin looking flawless. I sculpted her cheeks with elfs Cool Bronzer palette, only £3.50 and my favourite contouring bronzer I’ve ever come across! Next I used various shades of blue eyeshadows from the yaby palette to create defined lines, and then softer ones by blending out the shadow. I also created my own eyeliner by mixing a deep blue Barry M dust pigment with a spray of MAC Fix+ Spray, and lined the eyes with this, to make them pop, and added glitter to the flicks with Collection 2000s Dazzling Gel Liner. All these blue shades matched perfectly with Nina the models beautiful eyes. I also (believe it or not) shaped the brows using a super dark blue eyeshadow and angled brush – I think blue brows suits Nina really well, and it’s also really wearable! I added crazy fun false lashes to Nina’s eyes – these were from Poundland, and proves you don’t need to spend a fortune for your art! Lips were done with two shades of MAC lipstick, a deeper pink one for the outer edges of her lips, and a more baby pink for the centre of her lips, and then MAC Lip Gelee on the top for lovely glossy lips. We tied Nina’s hair back for the shoot and added a rose hair corsage – it complemented the makeup colours perfectly. After taking some shots with the makeup this way, and Nina getting a tad wet in the shower shots, I had a mad idea to sci-fi up the shoot by adding Mehron silver powder to her neck, and I absolutely love the effect. Sometimes the most beautiful things are only realised last minute – and my silver neck idea definitely proves this!

Here's some action shots of me doing makeup :)

I especially like this one! :)

And here's the final pictures - I'm sooooo pleased with them :D

These are some shower shots, love the effect it creates :)

another day, another incredible shoot

Hello everyone :)

Today I've been on shoot with an incredible makeup artist, Sandra Cormack - look up her company, it's SC Makeup Artistry http://www.scmakeupartistry.co.uk/
It was the first time I met her today, and immediately she made me feel warm, welcome and comfortable. I half assisted her and half did makeup too. When I was all done with my models it was wonderful to just sit down and chat with her about girly makeup things over a hot chocolate!
The shoot was at 'The Secret Bunker' http://www.secretbunker.co.uk/ The most amazing location ever for a pin up themed shoot! It is a museum based far underground all about the war - it had so many old artefacts and fun things for us to see! I'd wrapped myself up all warm as there's still snow on the ground, but deep underground it was roasting hot! The have no heating at all, my my lord, it felt like we were in Hawaii!
The shoot was for FS , the St Andrews Charity Fashion Show. This show is amazing - it's so well known! It's the biggest student run show in the UK! To give you an idea of the scale of it, Maxfactor do the makeup for the show (but hopefully me and Sandra can sneak in and get involved!) and Alfa Romeo are sponsoring the next shoot - incredible! It's been featured in Vogue and The Sunday Times - it's mind blowing to think I worked on a shoot for an organisation so huge!
Check the website out - it's honestly something special!

So the brief we had was a modern high fashion pin up style - and boy, is that my favourite thing to hear! I love this style!

First up I did makeup on Lex, a guy from Lancashire - he had such fab skin! Very lucky! We popped him on his first ever makeup, with some foundation contouring on the cheekbones and round the eye, and then the other girls lubed him up in body oil ready for his shoot!

Next I did Lara, she was so lovely! And her the most big and beautiful doe eyes. And her hair was so soft and smooth! So amazing that she can roll out of bed and have the most wonderous hair! We did her a smokey eye with some browns and golds as they really complemented her complexion, and then big red lips too :)

Next I did Helene's makeup - she had such a fab colouring, so we figured green would look great on her, so we did her a really big and fun green smokey eye with again - the red lips! :) Then Sandra got to work on that INCREDIBLE BOUFFANT! That beehive was gravity defying!

This dog was sooooooooo cute! He was trotting about with his hoody on! :)

Next I prepped and did the base on Nina's skin, ready for Sandra to whip out her amazing skills for an amazing pin up look, by far my favourite of the day. Nina was so fun to work with, and let me use her Nikon camera, she has it as she loves photography, and my goodness, that camera was incredible! I'd love one! Here's some snaps of her having her makeup done and on shoot. The styling for the shoot was lingerie, some pretty expensive stuff too - £43 for a bra! But it was all beautiful, and amazing quality.

Look at Nina working it! She looks so much like Scarlett on here!

Sandra and Nina post makeup and hair. Sandra was INCREDIBLE at hair too! Is there no end to this womans talents?!

And finally some shots of Sandra and me post makeup. I was worn out - a 7am start on a Sunday morning wasn't too great! But the adrenaline and buzz I get during the shoot just keeps me going. It's such a wonderful feeling - I love how certain people just have something that makes their heart sing. For example today, as soon as Nina began talking about photography she just lit up, you could tell it was her passion. It's so fun learning what different peoples secret love is!

After makeup Sandra and I travelled further underground to where they were shooting to have a look at our work in action. And my lord, the photographer was out of this world. I got a glimpse of the shots - and I've honestly never seen such incredible stuff. I couldn't believe that I'd had the chance to work with him. His name's Kayhan, here's his website,
Check out his wedding stuff - the fact he charges a minimum of £1000 really indicates what an incredible talent he is, but honestly, his website really doesn't do his justice.

Fingers crossed I'll get to work with these geniouses again - as well as being brimming with talent they are the most wonderful kind people.

All the best,
Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend too,

Emily
xoxo

PS Dan, bless his soul, had a cup of tea waiting for me when I got back! He's the sweetest thing!

Here's a nice old fashioned phone in keeping with the pin up theme!

Being a MUA for a photoshoot! And MUA foundation secrets...

Yesterday I did makeup for a magazine photoshoot, and oh my goodness, it was so much fun!
I arrived on time and set my stuff up and laid it out all neat, it was so nice to see all my makeup laid out so pretty - just like one of those photos on tumblr! I wish I'd have taken a picture haha!
The two models came, and my they were so pretty and had such lovely skin!
I sat the first one down and did my stuff, the photographer asked for fairly natural looking makeup with strong dark eyebrows, so that's what they got! Both models looked really striking when I'd done, I was so proud I'd done it myself! :)
I was left with such a warm glowy feeling inside, - I know that makeup was definitely something that lights a fire in my heart and keeps it warm!
The models were so kind, not nasty and snobby like you sometimes hear about! I loved chatting to them!
Hopefully I should get the photos soon, and then maybe I can show you!

SIDE NOTE :)
ADDED DEC 6TH 2010 - I HAVE THE PHOTOS =D
Check Annika and Alix out in all their glory

BUTTT something I should mention for all the makeup lovers out there...
When I went to Kandee's glaminar she recommended Loreal True Match foundation over any other foundation out there, and I was like hold up! Better than MAC, Chanel, Armani.. all the stuff beauty gurus on the net hype about constantly?! So in Boots there was 3 for 2 on, so I got three different shades, a light, medium and dark shade for my kit, and oh my lordy! It's true! They are amazing! I scooted right on back after practicing with the stuff for a coupla weeks, and bought another four shades for my kit! The stuff is AMAZING! It has such a thin texture, like MACs face and body foundation, it smooths on perfectly with anything, your fingers, a sponge, a brush, and is so thin on skin you feel like you have no makeup on, but actually it's there all day long! The yellowey undertones in it make you look more tan and healthy, and the wide variety of shades they offer means you can create any shade you like for any skin! It truly is the stuff of the Gods, better than any MAC, Lancome or Clinuque I've tried - and is half the price!
It's £10.99 in Boots, but run there now and it's in the sale for 3 for 2, so you can build that MUA kit and save some pennies!
I'm sorry wonderful MAC, but Loreal beats you hands down here!

Foundation kisses,
Emily
